The DT 990 Edition was released as a “home” listening headphone for high-end audio speakers, however, on their website, they say that both DT 990 headphones use exactly the same technology inside, so the only difference is aesthetically (1. the straight vs. coiled cable, 2. softer headband on Edition, and 3. colour). I vastly prefer the puffy one on the 990 pro, and 880s. To me the 990's sound FABULOUS :-D My one quibble is the new 990 headband-- it is too thin and hard. Plus I'm not a fan of "cheap plastic" seeing as I have a tendency to BREAK cheap Plastic >.> However, the padding can easily be replaced. Imho the suggestions and info by @Mark Al are great! I was looking on their website and their description concludes that the DT-880 PRO (semi-open) are for referencing, mixing and mastering and DT-990 PRO (open) are for critical listening. the dt880/990 are open which while better for soundstaging leaks noise in and out. If you like the 770, just consider they their sound is rather different from 880/990. I want to use these headphones to mix and I've heard that fully open … Beyerdynamic DT 880 VS Beyerdynamic DT 990 vs Audio-Technica ATH-M50. Not SE) Specifically, the Sennheiser HD 650 is said to show its potential better with high-power amplifiers. - Beyerdynamic DT 880 250 ohm or 600 ohm - Beyerdynamic DT 990 250 ohm or 600 ohm - Sennheiser HD 599 (Standard model. Sounds good, I'll probably go with the DT 880. Rest assured, the 880 has a very large soundstage; it slaughters the senn 595 in this respect. Is the DT 990 Pro as 'painful' as people say? I still want to get the DT 990 though its only other headphone I want to buy/try besides a sorta of fantasy buy of Ultrasone ED 8 or ED 10. Even if I'm exaggerating a little (just to explain better) I'd say that 770 are more like typical consumer headphones (boosted lows, large mids cut, bright but not detailed highs), while 880/990 have much more articulated mids and highs and less lows. Macbook Pro -> iBasso D1 -> Maverick A-1 -> SR-60, DT-880, D-1001 Hi, Next month I'm planning on buying a new pair of headphones and I came across Beyerdynamic's DT-880 PRO and 990 PRO. Again DT-880 win this case, K240s have slightly weaker treble range, and M50s have this weird notch in the bass and worse treble response than DT-880. Finally, I don't find the mid on the 990 recessed. I'm recently trying to figure out what headphone I want to try next. the dt770 is closed so isolates you from outside noise. I produce music as well (nothing serious, it's just a hobby I've had for the past 5 years or so), and I recently ordered a 600 Ohm DT 880 Premium Manufaktur as an upgrade to my 80 Ohm DT 770 Pros, hearing good things about their flatness, soundstage/imaging, and overall level of detail. I've been considering the DT 990 or the DT 880, I feel like the DT 990 might be a better option for me as I listen to mainly hiphop and they have better bass than the 880. Would it make sense to use the HD 650 with the G6 compared to the Beyerdynamics? DT-880 and AH-D2000 take the cake. Here's frequency response between DT-770, DT-880, DT-990 and AH-D2000.
